Going the Distance — Vagrin sets up running group at rescue mission

Tracy Vagrin is a dedicated runner. Last year she completed the half-marathon of the Frederick Marathon, and the Iron Girl Triathlon in Annapolis. And like many runners, she enjoys bringing others into her favorite sport.

Except the guys Vagrin introduces to running have known a little hard luck. Some have alcohol or drug problems, and some have not been able to keep a steady job. Vagrin has set up a running group at the Frederick Rescue Mission.

Last year she was able to persuade three residents to run several local 5 kilometer runs. This year, she has enough runners to form a team relay for the Frederick Marathon. Two of the residents, Mark Hattley and David Pineda, have elected to run the half marathon on their own.

Vagrin started meeting the guys on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings at Baker Park for runs back in January.

Community Pharmacies Help Prepare Nation for Next Emergency

PHOENIX, AZ -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 04/24/07 -- NACDS Annual Meeting -- Today, the nation's community pharmacies joined together to announce a new initiative that will provide individuals who have been displaced by natural disasters or other emergencies with faster, safer access to life-saving prescription medications. Based on learnings from Hurricane Katrina, the new initiative uses technology that would allow licensed prescribers and pharmacists anywhere in the country to securely access an information service containing the prescription history, or "Rx History," of a patient from the affected area. In the midst of an emergency, Rx History reduces the risk of medication errors by making critical information available to licensed caregivers when and where they are treating patients. All communications within Rx History are compliant with HIPAA and state laws with respect to privacy and security.

WiFi zone tales of woe flood in

CAST YOUR MIND BACK to last Friday when the weather in London's red and tranquil labyrinth was hotter than July.

Sales guys loosened ties and slung jackets over shoulders while slurping thirstily from pints of lager top outside pubs decorated by pansies that drooped and shed petals. The sales boys' molls stood by them clutching lurid cocktails as their arms turned from chalk and puce to pinky-red and you could almost hear the skin sizzle.

It was very heaven to be alive but your correspondent was more hot under the collar than in possession of a sunny disposition. Today's it's a little cooler but, just like Peter Finch in Network, he's still mad as hell with the state of public Wi-Fi. But he's not a man to be beaten down by the big bullies of government, corporate telecoms and the hotel and catering trade, and he's fortified by the support of readers of The INQUIRER, possibly the greatest collection of articulate, passionate, intelligent people ever to cleave to a publication.
