Thomas: Uncle Sam in cahoots with H&R Block?

They can't even agree on what worthy causes to pander for. The state form lists 14 worthy causes, when there must be a dozen more causes equally worthy that didn't make the list."

"You suspect some political hanky-panky?" asked the doctor.

"Why not? They are politicians. That's why the worthy cause the Form 1040 asks you to contribute to is a political cause the Presidential Election Campaign Fund."

"Why not? Most members of Congress want to run for president. What's wrong with that."

"Doctor, what's wrong is that half the candidates for president say they don't believe in public funding of campaigns, but they all line up anyhow, making sure they get their share."

"Well, wouldn't you?"

"No, doctor, because I wouldn't be dumb enough to run for president."

"You're dumb enough to keep doing your own taxes.

Google exec says content management systems lacking

A shortage of competition in the enterprise content management field is limiting the type of vendor innovation that makes products more appealing to customers, a Google official contended this week at the AIIM Conference & Expo in Boston.

Despite a trend in which business applications are starting to look more like consumer products, enterprise content management vendors do not face the same pressure to keep users happy as do search websites such as Google, said David Bercovich, a product marketing manager with Google's enterprise application unit.

Natural Oasis

It is easy to see why the quaint seaside village of SeaGrove is attracting so much attention in the growing Northeast Florida town of St. Augustine Beach. Enveloped by a rich, natural setting of 100-year-old oak trees and resonating with attractive coastal residences that are within a short walking distance of the community's small town amenities and commercial offerings, SeaGrove, actually situated on Anastasia Island, features a distinctive "urban style with a beach rhythm" that is unmatched in Northeast Florida.

Bill puts environmental records online

The Assembly Natural Resources Committee has voted to approve legislation by Assemblywoman Lois Wolk to create a more efficient, transparent method of cataloging the state's environmental documents and making them accessible online.

Current law requires substantial documentation - from environmental impact reports to maps and photographs - for every state bond measure approved by the voters. There is currently no comprehensive cataloging or preservation of these irreplaceable environmental documents, hindering both government and public access.

Wolk's Assembly Bill 862 improves public access by requiring that environmental documents be digitally cataloged and stored with the State Librarian.

"Businesses and government agencies lose time and money having to produce and store hard copies of government reports," said Wolk, D-Davis.

Easter gets shoppers in mood for spring outfits

“Easter is a critical time for apparel retailers," said NRF President and CEO Tracy Mullin. “Retailers will be looking to the warmer weather to help stimulate the sale of spring apparel."

Department stores will be a popular shopping destination, with 22 percent more consumers planning to shop there this year than last year (36.8 percent vs.
